KATHMANDU, Aug 21: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is stepping up its efforts to connect unemployed citizens with meaningful employment opportunities through the introduction of the Labor Bank initiative. In a recently issued notice, KMC has called upon unemployed individuals residing within the city to become part of the labor bank program.

KMC's labor bank is set to play a pivotal role in ensuring a consistent supply of manpower essential for various undertakings such as social development, infrastructure construction, maintenance, heritage preservation, environmental conservation, and urban management.

The core objective of the Labor Bank is to establish a bridge between available manpower and the requirements of government, non-government, and private sectors. This initiative aligns with KMC's larger goal of enhancing workforce engagement, as outlined in the annual policy and program for the fiscal year 2023-24 under the Metropolis Golden Scheme.

With the rollout of the Labor Bank Scheme, KMC envisions improved access to employment for the unemployed workforce. This strategic move is anticipated to curb the trend of young labor force seeking employment abroad and foster the growth of a vibrant labor culture.

KMC has invited interested individuals willing to contribute their skills within the metropolitan area for the current year to complete the necessary details using the provided form. Submission can be made at their respective ward offices or at the metropolitan city's employment service center.

Under the Labor Bank framework, those engaged in daily or timely work will receive remuneration as per the approved rates. Notably, workers enlisted in the labor bank will receive priority consideration when employment opportunities arise. KMC has clarified that labor requirements for the metropolis will be sourced exclusively from this roster when recruiting for daily or timely wage work.
