KATHMANDU, Dec 14: Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav has described Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) as a city rich in cultural, historical, and archaeological heritage.
Speaking at the special ceremony organized by KMC on Saturday at the Army Pavilion, Tudikhel, to mark the 30th anniversary of its declaration as a metropolitan city, Vice President Yadav highlighted that Kathmandu holds special significance as the federal capital of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal and as a focal point of national and international attention. He said that the city’s cultural grandeur, unique identity, indigenous traditions, traditional cuisine, lifestyle, musical instruments, dances, and ornaments-encompassed within its UNESCO World Heritage sites-represent a rare and unparalleled combination found nowhere else.
Vice President Yadav extended congratulations and best wishes to the residents of Kathmandu and everyone involved, acknowledging the significant role played by those who have contributed to advancing the metropolitan city on the path of development and prosperity. He also expressed gratitude to the leadership, elected representatives, officials, and staff of the metropolis.
“The traditional festivals and celebrations here, along with fascinating stories and legends associated with the metropolis, have given Kathmandu the title of a vibrant and unique city,” Vice President Yadav said. “In recent times, as a local government, KMC has been fulfilling its responsibilities and playing a significant role in economic, social, and physical development, which I greatly appreciate.”

“Efforts made to build an inclusive and accessible city have instilled a sense of belonging in women, persons with disabilities, senior citizens, and children, making them feel that the city is ‘also mine,’” he said, “Live broadcasts of executive meetings and municipal assemblies, the extensive use of information technology, transparent service management through an integrated system, initiatives in health, education, employment, infrastructure development, enhancing access to healthcare for underprivileged citizens, and measures to control air pollution are commendable achievements of the metropolitan city.”
Vice President Yadav expressed his belief that KMC, by fully utilizing the rights granted by the constitution, laws, and prevailing systems, can provide valuable guidance for other municipalities to practice federalism.
Before his address, Vice President Yadav enthusiastically toured the exhibition of traditional cultural tableaux from all 32 wards of the KMC, along with displays of various technological tools used in the city.
