KATHMANDU, Oct 1: Within 24 hours of the government signing an agreement with medical professionals, committing to providing security to the latter, a doctor has been assaulted in the capital Kathmandu. Dr Manish Khadka, working as an intern at Kathmandu Medical College and Teaching Hospital in Sinamangal, was assaulted.

A patient who came to the Outpatient Service (OPD) for kidney disease examination assaulted intern Dr Khadka around 12:30PM on Sunday. The hospital administration said that when Dr Khadka asked the patient to sit outside for a while due to the high number of patients, the patient attacked him in a fit of anger.

The police have arrested two people for their alleged involvement in the incident. Those arrested are Rupak Gautam and Saroj Gautam.

Doctors and healthcare workers have been protesting for the past week due to an alarming rise in attacks on medical personnel. An agreement was reached between the government and doctors just the day before. However, within 24 hours of the signing of this agreement, in the wake of another assault on a doctor, KMC doctors briefly halted their services in front of the hospital and staged a sit-in.
