Zakir Hussein, an MLA of Bihar, and his accomplice Indian national Bhola Shankar Tiwari, were arrested Friday from Kakadvitta border after 11 years of the abduction. [break]
On January 26, 2002, Agrawal, who is from Bishal Group, one of the biggest business houses in Nepal, was kidnapped while he was on a morning walk. He was released after 41 days in captivity after paying a ransom of Rs 30 million. Hussein is an elected candidate of Lok Janashakti party from Jogabani constituency of Bihar.
Hussein and Tiwari are among Nepal´s most wanted criminals charged with human trafficking and hostage taking. A complaint regarding their involvement in Agrawal´s kidnapping was registered at the District Police Office in Morang some time ago.
“As per orders from above, we took the duo under control,” said Kakadvitta police chief Deputy Superintendent of Police, Govinda Thapaliya. He also informed that the two have already been handed over to the District Police Office, Morang for further investigation.
According to spokesman of District Police Office, Morang, DSP Uma Prasad Chaturbedi, the fugutive criminals were arrested the charge of kidnapping industrialist Agrawal. “The two were convicted of kidnapping by Morang District Court on 26 March, 2002 and they were in our list of most wanted criminals,” DSP Chaturbedi said.
According to a source, Hussein and Tiwari along with their three personal security guards had entered Nepal in a Toyota car (BR 01 PB 4688). Nepali security personnel had allowed them into Nepal after a brief checking on border. But after half-an-hour, police arrested them from a hotel, where they were taking rest.
“We had prior information about their planned visit to Nepal. Thinking that arresting them right on the border would cause problems, we arrested them from the hotel," the source said. Police have however released the personal security guards.
