Khimit I celebrates 10th anniversary

CHARIKOT, Nov 27: Khimti I hydro-power project has generated four billion units of electricity in the last ten years.



Himal Power Limited (HPL) is the promoter of the first private sector project under a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT).[break]



Khimti I plant that started commercial operation on 11 July, 2000 has so far generated around four billion units of electricity.



The project will be handed over to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) by July 2020 as per the Power Purchase Agreement.



HPL has also focused on addressing community development needs through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs.



According to the information provided at a function to mark the 10th anniversary of the project, over 4,600 rural households have been benefiting from a 635 KW mini-hydropower plant.



A total of 3,800 additional households are going to benefit from another 400 kw power plant which is under construction.



HPL has supported several schools in Dolakha and Ramechhap.



HPL has been supporting local industry and the strengthening of Nepali competence within the Hydro Power field through the utilization of expertise from such institutions as Hydro Lab and by supporting the establishment of a Turbine Lab in Kathmandu University.
