PALPA, Sept 2: CPN-UML Secretary Bishnu Paudel said on Wednesday that the UML is seeing intra-party feuds as party Chairman Jhalanath Khanal has not been able to transform himself into a democratic figure.

“The chairman has failed in his ways and given rise to intra-party disputes,” Paudel said while talking to journalists in Palpa. “Jhalanathji wants to impose centralism on the party,” he said.

He also accused Khanal of violating the statute while running the party. “The chairman has violated the statute. If any disciplinary action is taken, it should be against the chairman.” But he added that this is not an appropriate time to take action against anyone in the party.

Paudel also said that the chairman should not be leading the party the way he led the then Communist Party of Nepal (Marxist-Leninist) when he was its secretary.

The CPN (Marxist-Leninist) and the then CPN (Marxist) merged to form the CPN-UML following the mass movement of 1990. “The chairman wants to turn the party into a CPN (Marxist-Leninist), but the eighth general convention has sought to make a more advanced party out of it.”

Paudel argued that disputes would be settled automatically once the party leadership learns democratic ways. “The leadership is learning democratic ways and the disputes should be settled.”
