Kesha-JTI tennis from April 1

KATHMANDU, March 15: All Nepal Lawn Tennis Association (ANLTA) will host the fifth edition of Kesha Group JTI Junior Open National Tennis Tournament from April 1 to 6.



At a press conference organized in the capital on Friday, ANLTA informed that the tournament will inlude 14 events and all the matches will be played at the Satdobato Tennis Court, Lalitpur.[break]



"The tournament is being organized to hone tennis players´ skills as the International Tennis Federation´s Junior Tennis Initiative Program is supporting us," said ANLTA President Manoj Rana.



The tournament will feature boys´ and girls´ singles events in U-8, U-9, U-10, U-12, U-14 and U-16 age groups as well as boys´ and girls´ doubles events in U-16 age group. The U-8 age group event is being introduced for the first time in the tournament. Altogether 250 players from Kathmandu Valley and Pokhara are expected to participate in the tournament.



"When we started this tournament five years ago, there were only 20 to 25 players. The number of participants has increased over the years," said Basant Mathema, the co-sponsor of the tournament.



Kesha Group is the main sponsor of the tournament. "We have allocated around Rs 90,000 as scholarship money. Winners and runners-up of U-10 age group and above will get cash as scholarship while U-8 and U-9 players will get sports gears," said Keshab Pandey, the chairperson of Kesha Group.



ANLTA President Rana also informed that the association is planning to conduct at least four junior tournaments in a calendar year. "As our age group players have started securing good ranks in Asian Junior Rankings, we are excited," said Rana.
