'Keep army, judiciary above politics'

KATHMANDU, April 29: Some prominent civil society leaders have appealed to the government and major political parties to keep the sensitive and important national institutions like Nepal Army and judiciary above controversies and not to complicate the peace process.



"Since the controversy over action against the Army Chief and appointment of chief justice will affect the peace and constitution-drafting processes, we urge the government and political parties concerned to use their political intellect and wisdom and settle the issues at the earliest," said the civil society leaders in a joint appeal.

They also appealed to the government to release Tharu activists and requested the agitating groups to call off their strikes keeping in view with the suffering of the people.



Those issuing the appeal include Padma Ratna Tuladhar, Damannath Dhungana, Laxman Aryal, Pradeep Pokharel, Nutan Thapaliya, Charan Prasain, Babu Ram Giri, Birendra Prasad Mishra, Dr Om Gurung, Dinesh Tripathi, Ganesh BK and Chandra Baniya.
