Kathmandu wins 5 golds on first day

KATHMANDU, June 2: Kathmandu clinched five gold medals on the first day of the Central Region Qualifiers for the President´s Running Shield on Sunday.



Narahari Gautam jumped 12.05 m to win gold for Kathmandu in boys´ triple jump while Sabitri Chaudhary won the girls´ event with a jump of 8.93 m. Similarly, Anita Thapa clocked 1 minute 7.62 seconds to win the girls´ 400m sprint and Sangita Khadka clinched gold in the girls´ 1500m race clocking 5 minutes 17.86 seconds. Kathmandu also claimed gold in girls´ 4x100m relay. [break]



Chitwan won four gold medals including boys´ 4x100m relay. Jeet Kumari Mahato and Raj Kumari Chaudhary clinched gold medals for Chitwan in the boys´ and girls´ javelin throw events respectively. Prem Chaudhary clocked 55.53 seconds to win the boys´ 400m sprint.



Ashish Chaudhary of Lalitpur won the boys´ 100m sprint with a timing of 11.05 seconds while his teammate Nabindra Tamang clocked 4 minutes 42.05 seconds to claim gold in the boys´ 1500m race. Sandhya Acharya of Makawanpur won the girls´ 100m sprint with a timing of 13.58 seconds.



Meanwhile, Kathmandu, Sindhuli, Kavre, Lalitpur, Nuwakot, Sindhupalchowk, Sarlahi and Chitwan have reached the quarterfinals of girls´ volleyball. In boys´ volleyball, Kathmandu, Sarlahi and Chitwan have booked their berths in the quarterfinals.
