KATHMANDU, March 27: The Kathmandu Valley has continued to witness thick haze and smoke as pollutant particles have accumulated in the atmosphere due to forest fires in most of the districts of the country in recent days.

The valley witnessed thick haze and smoke on Friday as well. Issuing a special bulletin on Saturday, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology stated that the air in the atmosphere in most parts of the country was in static condition. The department said that the polluting particles are floating in the air as they are not dispersed, resulting in an increased level of pollution in the atmosphere.

Meteorologist Sabina Shakya said there was a thin chance of improvement in the atmospheric condition for some days. This is likely to cause eye irritation and respiratory problems in people.

The department has urged people not to come out of their houses except for very essential work and wear masks and take necessary precautions against the air pollution if they are unable to avoid travel.
