Amar Sunar of Kanchanpur in men´s section and Sharmila Rai of Bhojpur in women´s section were declared the best players under sansau. Similarly, South Asian Games (SAG) gold medalist Ang Babu Lama of Sindhupalchowk and Sushmita Tamang of Bhaktapur were declared the best male and female players in thaulo.
Ashok Khaling of Udayapur defeated Arjun Chaudhary to claim gold in men´s 48 kg sansau, while Rajkumar Rai of Nepal Army won gold in men´s 52 kg defeating Umesh Maharjan of Lalitpur in the final. Similarly, Amar Sunar defeated Bimal Thapa to take gold in men´s 56 kg. Mangal Prasad Tharu overcame Kanti Lama of Bhaktapur in the final of men´s 60 kg category.
Sombir Tamang clinched gold in men´s 65 kg sansau beating Suddhiram Chaudhary of Kanchanpur. Chitrasingh Thakuri of Nepal Army defeated Raju Shrestha of Sindhupalchowk in the final of 70 kg category. Purushottam Rijal of Kathmandu won the men´s 75 kg sansau defeating Nikesh Shrestha of Armed Police Force (APF). Tej Bahadur Palli of APF defeated Shankar Bahadur Khand of Kaski for gold in men´s 80 kg category. The 85 kg gold went to Ramesh Tamang of Sindhupalchowk who edged past Manlal Moktan of Dolakha in the final.
In women´s sansau, Sharmila Rai of Bhaktapur took gold in 48 kg category beating Samjhana Sharma of Bhaktapur, while Juni Rai of Army defeated Anita Lama of Lalitpur in the final of 52 kg. Jharana Gurung of Kaski saw off Sharmila Rai of Army to clinch gold in 56 kg while Chahana Bamjan of APF won the 60 kg event. Bamjan overcame Lumanti Shrestha of Bhaktapur in the final. Nilam Ramjali of Surkhet took gold in women´s 65 kg beating Aruna Rai of Ilam.
Nirajan Ale Magar of Lalitpur bagged gold in tausu under men´s thaulo. SAG gold medalist Binita Maharjan won the women´s thaichi chen while Sushmita Tamang of Bhaktapur won gold in women´s chyansu. Meanwhile, Kathmandu´s team comprising Bijay Sinjali Magar, Bijay Lama and Dorje Lama claimed gold in men´s tuilin (set sparring).
Altogether 245 players from 39 districts had competed for 36 gold medals during the four-day tournament.
National Sports Council (NSC) Vice-president Pitambar Timilsina, Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama, Treasurer Indra Bahadur Thing, among others, distributed prizes to the winners.
Three players retire
KATHMANDU: Three wushu players -- Yuvaraj Gurung, Rajiv Maharjan and Birsingh Tamang -- have announced retirement from the game after playing for 15 years each. The players announced their retirement during the closing ceremony of the wushu championship.
Gurung, one of the five nominees for Best Coach of the Year at this year´s Pulsar Sports Award, is the coach of Chahana Bamjan who claimed silver in the World Junior Wushu Championship. The Sports Award will be held on Tuesday in the capital.
