Kathmandu Mall businessmen protest in front of KMC alleging assault by metropolitan police

KATHMANDU, Jan 22: Businessmen at Kathmandu Mall held a protest in front of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) on Monday alleging assault by the KMC police.


On Monday, they gathered and demonstrated in front of the KMC office. They said that they have been running their businesses on the ground floor of Employee Provident Fund (EPF)’s Kathmandu Mall and despite having one year left as per their contract with the metropolis, they were assaulted by the KMC through the deployment of city police.

Businessman Sridhar Pokharel said that although there is one year left until the end of the contract with the metropolis, the metropolis police personnel brutally assaulted the businessmen. He mentioned that the metropolis has arrested the businessmen against the court’s order.


Similarly, Milan Ghimire, president of the Kathmandu Mall Sanchaya Kosh bhawan Byapar Sangh, said that the metropolis has arrested the businessmen in a terrorist style. He said that a team including Metropolitan Police Chief Rajunath Pandey attacked them.


Similarly, another businessman Murari Koirala said that 75 businessmen are conducting business on the last floor of the Sanchaya Kosh building, but the KMC’s actions towards them were more severe than those taken against street vendors.
