On Thursday and Friday, the minimum temperature in Kathmandu was recorded at 3 degrees Celsius. As there is no possibility of immediate winter rain, it is forecast that the winter will increase further.
Most districts in Terai and Madhesh are shrouded in heavy fog, with a denser layer covering the western Terai compared to the east. "Cities like Dhangadhi, Nepalgunj, and Bhairahawa are enveloped in heavy fog, while Bhadrapur experiences relatively lighter conditions," explained meteorologist Jha. He noted that visibility in the western Terai districts ranges between 50 to 100 meters.
Meteorologist Jha said that this situation is likely to continue for another day or two.
The daily life in Terai and Madhesh districts has been disrupted due to the intensifying winter chill accompanied by heavy fog. Despite these conditions, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has yet to declare a cold wave.
"In order to declare a cold wave, a certain parameter has to be met, it has not been met yet. We are closely monitoring it," said meteorologist Jha.
