Kathayat wins school chess

KATHMANDU: Uttam Singh Kathayat of Children Heaven School of Children Heaven School on Saturday lifted the title of First Pioneer Inter-school Chess Tournament. Kathayat edged past Dinesh BK of Bal Udhar in a tie-breaker after both of them scored equal five points.



The five-round tournament was held under Swiss League format. Bikram Tamang of Reliance School and Manang Rai of Tara Sadan secured the third and fourth positions respectively. Nayan Khakurel of Reliance, Pemba Sherpa of Tara Sadan and Sandesh Katuwal of host Pioneer secured fifth and seventh positions respectively. Altogether 44 players had competed in the two-day long event.
