Kaski District Court orders revocation of GB Rai’s passport

The Kaski District Court has ordered the government to revoke the passport of absconding fugitive Gitendra Babu (GB) Rai.

KATHMANDU, Jan 17: The Kaski District Court has ordered the government to revoke the passport of absconding fugitive Gitendra Babu (GB) Rai. 


Rai is the main accused of misappropriation of funds of at least five cooperatives across Nepal, funneling the funds into Gorkha Media Network linked to former home minister Rabi Lamichhane.

According to the Head Clerk of the court Rajan Khanal, a single bench of Judge Himal Belbase on Friday issued a final verdict on the case registered by the District Government Attorney’s Office (DGAO), Kaski, directing the Department of Passport to revoke Rai’s passport.


"The order has been sent to the Department of Passport for further action," Khanal told Republica.


Previously, a single bench of Judge Nabaraj Dahal had postponed the hearing on the case on January 13, citing the unavailability of time to take a decision on the case.
