BIRENDRANAGAR, Oct 17: Karnali Province Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DIG) Bhim Prasad Dhakal has started on-site monitoring after complaints of indiscriminate pick-up of passengers, increase in fares, etc were heard on the occasion of Dashain and Tihar.

DIG Dhakal along with the passengers reached the bus park and Birendranagar exit points to understand the problems caused by the transport committee. After reaching the bus park and checkpoint, DIG Dhakal interrogated the passengers and transport entrepreneurs. He also asked the passengers to report any discomfort to the police.

It was found during the monitoring of the bus park that fare lists were not kept at the ticket counter, other passengers were kept in reservation seats, tickets for passengers exceeding the seat capacity were sent by the committee, additional vehicles were not added as required due to the high number of passengers during Dashain, risks were increased by adding old vehicles were allowed to carry passengers and tickets were priced at the old fare rates without maintaining the new fares, DIG Dhakal said. He said that he was alerted for the first time and if the fare is not in accordance with the seating capacity, inspection will be done again and action will be taken. He met and talked to the staff of the committee, drivers and passengers.

The passengers also complained that the traffic police stopped the vehicles going to their destinations for hours. This is a problem for the passengers going home after getting the ticket. The traffic police at the Bus Park and post office can only check the route permit  and number of passengers, but there have also been complaints that they leave the vehicle full of luggage and passengers in agreement with the vehicle owner. This increases the risk of accidents.
