KATHMANDU, May 19: Authorities have partially reopened the Kanti Lokpath road section connecting Hetauda in Makwanpur and Kathmandu for one-way traffic.

Floods had blocked the road after they swept away the diversion structure over the Baguwa stream, located at the border of Bhimfedi Rural Municipality-8 in Makwanpur and Bagmati Rural Municipality-2 in Lalitpur.

Makwanpur police confirmed that small vehicles such as cars, jeeps, Scorpios, and motorcycles can now travel one-way via an under-construction bridge at Baguwa along the Kanti Lokpath.

However, authorities have restricted heavy vehicle movement until they construct a new diversion route. Last night's rain had washed away the hume pipes used in the temporary diversion.

A major flood last October had already destroyed a portion of the Bagmati Bridge at Baguwa stream. Since then, officials had created a diversion in the stream to allow traffic while they carried out bridge repairs.
