Kamal Thapa announces candidacy for party’s chairman again

KATHMANDU, Nov 29: Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Kamal Thapa has decided to contest again for the post of party president in the upcoming general convention scheduled to begin from December 1. 

Speaking at a program organized in Kathmandu, Chairman Thapa said that he will run for the elections in the party's upcoming general convention. Stating that there are a lot of works that need to be accomplished at the party, Thapa said that he could not abandon his works halfway. He said that he will hand over his leadership only after strengthening the party further. 

In a separate context, Thapa asked CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman  Pushpa Kamal Dahal to think that some issues should not be seen as irreversible by prohibiting democracy including the monarchy. Stating that he has played with guns since childhood, he warned Dahal not to brag about carrying a gun before heading to the jungle. He warned of boycotting the constituent assembly and taking to the streets if any kind of issues such as prohibiting democracy including the monarchy is raised. 

Stating that Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba had recently expressed agitation toward former King Gyanendra Shah, Thapa challenged Deuba to hold a referendum if he believed in the republic. He also said that the Rastriya Prajatantra Party will emerge as the third-largest party after Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML in the upcoming elections. 

While stating that they would achieve unexpected success in the upcoming election if all worked together, Chairman Thapa requested party members to give him a chance to lead the party once and for all.
