Judo team to set out for training in Switzerland

KATHMANDU, July 30: A three-member team from Nepal including two players is set to leave for Leysin, Switzerland, to participate in the IJF Youth Training Camp. Among the participants are Ayush Singh Saud and Samjhana Thapa and their coach Rajiv Pradhan.

KATHMANDU, July 30: A three-member team from Nepal including two players is set to leave for Leysin, Switzerland, to participate in the IJF Youth Training Camp. Among the participants are Ayush Singh Saud and Samjhana Thapa and their coach Rajiv Pradhan. 


The training camp is jointly being organized by the International Judo Federation (IJF), Olympic Solidarity and Sergei Judo Camp and will be held for a week from August 1 to 7. According to Nepal Judo Association, the team’s flight ticket and accommodation will be arranged by Olympic Solidarity and Sergei Judo Camp while their local expenses will be paid by the IJF.

The team was bid farewell by acting member-secretary of the National Sports Council, Ekendra Kunwar at a function on Friday. He expressed his commitment to contact the NRNs in Switzerland on behalf of the council and also stressed the need for utilizing the knowledge gained from such training.


According to Dipak Harsha Bajracharya, Nepal is participating in the training camp for the third time in a row where the players will receive training from renowned judo instructors.


Both the players were selected based on their performance in the U-18 Lokendra Bahadur Shrestha Memorial Nationwide Judo Competition, which was held at Rajbiraj, general secretary of Nepal Judo Association, Dharma Kumar Shrestha informed Republica.
