Judo team leaving for Thailand today

KATHMANDU, April 14: A four-member Nepali judo team is leaving for Thailand on Monday to compete in the Senior Asian Judo Championship, which is scheduled to be held in Thailand from April 19 to 21.



Lila Adhikari of Tribhuvan Army Club will compete in the women´s U-48 kg weight category while Saroj Maharjan will represent Nepal in the men´s U-60 kg weight category. According to judo chief coach Birendra Ranjit, Olympian Ganga Bahadur Dangol is the coach of the Nepali team and Rajan Karmacharya is the team manager. National Sports Council Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama bade farewell to the Nepali team amidst a function held in the capital on Sunday.[break]



The judokas were selected for their outstanding performance in the last two national tournaments -- Lokendra Memorial National Judo Championship and Ambika Memorial National Open Judo Championship -- held a few months ago.



Meanwhile, Karmacharya will also participate in the executive committee meeting of Judo Union of Asia on April 17 as Nepal Judo Association President Deepak Harsha Bajracharya will not be able to attend the meeting because of personal reasons. Bajracharya is also a vice-president of Judo Union of Asia.
