KATHMANDU, April 30: Journalist Deepak Pathak has been arrested on the charge of defaming Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal through social media.
Pathak, who is also a board member of the state-owned Radio Nepal, was apprehended from his Jadibuti-based residence by the Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) at the Bureau, Nabinda Aryal said that Pathak was detained following a complaint. Pathak was found defaming NCP chairman Dahal through his Facebook posts, according to Aryal. "We have launched a probe into the incident as per the Electronic Transaction Act," SSP Aryal added.
