The APF staffers assaulted Ghimire and manhandled Chalise and Sharma while they were conversing on the road outside the center. [break]
The APF staffers first shoved the three asking them to leave the place and ended up slapping Ghimire when the latter asked why one could not stand in a public place.
“I just raised my voice seeking answer as to why one cannot stand in a public place. I still seek answer to this question from APF and the government,” Ghimire told Republica.
The incident has taken place amid frequent reports about AFP personnel at the diplomatic missions misbehaving with innocent civilians.
Last year, a youth who was taking photographs of a bicycle rally proceeding along the road outside Fohora Durbar building which houses the recreation centre was arrested and tortured by the APF personnel.
“It´s a huge insult to civilians at the hands of security forces. If people are not allowed to stand outside the centre, why not barricade the place?” said Chalise.
“The incident shows that our security personnel are not trained adequately. Had they been taught to behave well with civilians, such incidents would not have occurred,” said Chalise.
Asked about the incident, APF spokesman DIG Bhisma Kanta Aryal said that the incident has shocked the establishment and action would be taken against the guilty after proper investigations.
