Journalist Acharya released on bail

KATHMANDU, Oct 1: Journalist Dinesh Acharya has been released on Tuesday submitting a bail amount of Rs 30,000.



Acharya, editor of Share Bazaar Weekly, was produced at the Kathmandu District Court on Tuesday. A single bench of Justice Arjun Adhikary ordered to release him on bail after hearing. Police nabbed Acharya on a complaint filed by businessman, Nirvan Chaudhary under provision of the Electronic Transactions Act, 2008. [break]



Acharya was detained by the Metropolitan Police for sharing a news on social networking site, Facebook, after Chaudhary complained that the content of news was defamatory on his character.



Chaudhary had filed the complaint some two months ago. According to KP Dhungana, Chairman of the Online Journalists´ Association, Acharya has been made a victim in this case. “It is wrong to implement the provision of faulty Act without proper explanation,” Dhungana added.
