Jitendra advances into second round

KATHMANDU, March 26: Previous edition's runner-up Jitendra Pariyar progressed into the second round of the Seventh Sahabir Memorial Open Lawn Tennis Championship, ongoing at the Armed Police Force headquarter in Halchowk, Kathmandu on Thursday.

Jitendra need not flex his muscle for he received walkover from his opponent as Shakti Sharma, Milan Rokkaya, Anil Shahi, Kamal Bhandari, Dawa Sherpa, Abhishek Bastola and Santosh Khatri also progressed into men's singles second round winning their respective matches.Shakti completed a 6-3, 2-6 and 7-5 win over Suraj Thapa, Milan thumped Ganesh Karki 6-2 and 6-1, Anil labored to defeat Chhewang Lama 4-6, 7-5 and 6-2, Kamal came back from a set down to beat Sriyansh Karki 7-5, 6-2 and 6-2, Dawa hammered Pranay Khanal 6-0 and 6-0, Abhishek outclassed Subrata Basnet 6-0 and 6-1and Santosh edged past Prabesh Pant 6-2 and 7-5.

Likewise, team of Jitendra and Sriyansh sealed a 6-0 and 6-0 win over the pair of Shivaram Ranamagar and Ganesh Karki, pair of Dawa and Abhishek defeated a pair of Akash Lamkhor and Shyam GC, team of Aatmaram Karki and Santosh Khatri hammered a team of Anil Century and Seshmani Chaudhary and team Shakti Sharma and Anil Shahi registered a 6-0 and 6-2 Pranay Karki and Rajkumar Lama.

In other matches of the day, Ram Rana, Bikash Rana, Sanjay Jha, Durgabahadur Kunwar and Pradeep Shaha won their respective matches of the inter-governmental event's singles.
