Speaking at a program organized to mark the occasion, Finance Minister Surendra Pandey appreciated efforts of JICA and support of the Japanese government in minimizing the problems of rural people through grants, loans and technical assistances. [break]
He also hailed the activities undertaken by JICA in transferring technical know-how in agriculture and rural Nepal, and said that such assistances were crucial in reducing poverty in the country.
Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Tatsuo Mizuno said that the Japanese government has always responded positively to assist Nepal in various sectors of development. He expressed commitment to further expand cooperation and strengthen bilateral ties.
Addressing the function, Mizuno even referred to last Friday´s fracas in the parliament and in a humorous tone asked JICA to handover Pandey a new briefcase for having his old briefcase torn.
He also highlighted the activities supported by the Japanese government for the socio-economic growth of Nepal.
JICA, an international cooperation body of Japan, has been providing development assistance to Nepal since 1970s and its areas of focus has been infrastructure and agriculture, among others.
Volunteers of JICA too shared their experience at the program, which was attended by Chief Representative of JICA Mitsuyoshi Kawasaki and Representative Kenichiro Iizuka, among others.
