The decision comes after a local resident was found infected with the virus in Ward no. 1 of the municipality, said Mayor Hari Rana.
The lockdown is also expected to help contract tracing and prevention of community transmission.
Private and public transportation have come a halt while the market has remained shut.
According to the Centre, only essential services will be available during the lockdown. Shops will be allowed to open only from 8AM to 11AM every day. However, government offices will provide most of the regular services, according to Chief Administrative Officer of the municipality Pankaj Bhurtel. The lockdown will be extended if the coronavirus cases increase in coming days.
