“The board meeting of the National Trust for Nature Conservation has taken a decision to this effect, and necessary preparations have already begun,” said Minister Thakuri. Currently, the zoo operates from 10 am to 5 pm.
Inaugurating the zoo’s new infant breastfeeding rooms, he noted that linking the zoo with nature, wildlife, as well as culture and tradition, is a positive aspect. He also mentioned that since the zoo is small, work is underway to establish an open zoo in the Suryabinayak area.
Speaking at the event, the Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Chiri Babu Maharjan, said that the Central Zoo is a gem of Lalitpur and urged everyone to cooperate in its promotion. He said that since becoming the mayor, he has focused on the restoration and preservation of encroached, damaged, and buried cultural heritage in Lalitpur.
Dr Ram Chandra Kandel, director general of the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation, said that plans are underway to bring additional rare wildlife from both domestic and international sources.
