Hospital Chief Dr Gaurang Mishra informed Chief District Officer (CDO) Dr Kamaleshwar Sinha that the service was suspended as the patients requiring cesarean service were almost double its capacity. [break]
Chief Dr Mishra said CDO has also approved the decision. “We don´t have enough doctors and space. We only have one doctor provided under government quota and three hired by the hospital development committee though we need eight doctors,” Dr Mishra added.
Seven women had to be taken elsewhere Thursday after the hospital suspended the service. “They returned disappointed,” said nurse at the ward Munni Yadav.
Hospital Chief Dr Mishra expressed regrets at not being able to provide the service.
“We have to provide bed for cesarean delivery. But we have not enough beds,” Dr Mishra said. He said the hospital has been discharging new mothers before their stitches are removed due to shortage of beds. “We took the decision believing that it´s better to not admit them than troubling them after the operation,” he reasoned.
He said extra pressure on the hospital was also due to the exorbitant bills charged for cesarean delivery at private hospitals and clinics.
