“The new building can be shifted to another place after loosening the nut and bolt in case a bigger terminal building is required for the airport. This is the first terminal building of its kind being constructed by the CAN in any airport in the country,” informed Bhupendra Bhatta, chief of the CAN´s Janakpur branch.

As per the construction agreement, the contractor wining the open bid for the construction of the new terminal building should complete it the January of the 2014. Project Consultant engineer, Prabin Srivastav informed that 65 percent of the construction works have already completed so far.

Bhatta also underscored the need to upgrade the other physical infrastructure of the Janakpur Airport. “The airports which were poorly equipped than Janakpur airport in the past has now been upgraded by far. But the situation of Janakpur Airpor has remained the same,” said Bhatta.

The Madhav Nepal-led government had initiated the process to upgrade Janakpur Airport to make it a regional international airport. The government had also earmarked the budget to acquire land for the expansion of the runway.

After the project did not make much headway, the local stakeholders, of late, had been exerting pressure on the government to act fast.

Literati Rajendra Prasad Bimal, believed that the Janakpur, the home of mythological goddess Sita, should be turned into a religious tourist hub by attracting the Hindu tourists from around the globe.
