“He is recovering at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and is in stable condition,” neurosurgeon Dr Basanta Panta said.
His left hand remains paralyzed due to the injury on the right parietal lobe of brain and that remains the major concern, according to Dr Panta, but it can regain its normal function in future.[break]
“He will be kept in ICU for a few more days,” Dr Panta added. Jamakattel had to undergo surgery in the back of his head at Norvic International Hospital in Kathmandu Saturday night after a CT scan showed deep injury and bleeding inside his head.
Jamakattel, who is close to Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, was rushed to Norvic International Hospital after he was attacked in the back of his head with a sharp weapon at Babar Mahal Saturday evening.
He has said that someone attacked him from behind while he was talking on his cell phone and walking along the road opposite Rato Bhale restaurant at Babar Mahal.
He fell down immediately after the attack crying out for help.
Patiram Chaudhary, a security guard at Nepal Drugs Ltd. and a Maoist trade unionist, found him lying on the ground and took him to the hospital.
