The contractor company had constructed the cemented canal with funding support (Rs 24.2 million) from Asian Development Bank and handed over it to the users' committee a month ago. However, the canal channelized from Ladku rivulet based in Bethanchowk rural municipality-5 has been on use for the past 37 years.

The canal has provided irrigation services to 1,772 ropani land of Balthali area. Farmers now are worrying with the burial of the canal in different places due to torrential rain. "Rain-triggered flood has taken away Balthali irrigation canal, which is the only strong base for people's livelihood here", said Ram Pyari KC, vice-chair of Balthali Irrigation Users Committee.
