Lucknow Super Giants secure sixth win of the season


KATHMANDU, May 23: Lucknow Super Giants handed Gujarat Titans their first home defeat with a commanding 33-run win, notching their sixth victory of the season.


Playing at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday, Lucknow batted first after losing the toss and smashed 235 runs for the loss of just two wickets in 20 overs. In response, Gujarat Titans could score only 202 runs while losing nine wickets in their full quota of overs. The loss ended Gujarat's four-match home winning streak.

William O'Rourke led Lucknow's bowling attack with three wickets. Avesh Khan and Ayush Badoni claimed two wickets each, while Akash Singh and Shahbaz Ahmed contributed one wicket apiece.


Gujarat's Innings:


Gujarat opened their chase positively. Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill put together a 46-run stand before William O'Rourke dismissed Sudharsan for 21 off 16 balls. Avesh Khan then removed captain Gill, who managed 35 runs. Jos Buttler, too, fell early after scoring just 33 from 18 balls.


Sherfane Rutherford came in at number four and tried to anchor the innings with Shahrukh Khan. Together, they stitched a 40-ball 86-run partnership. Rutherford scored 38 before getting out, while Shahrukh added 57, but both failed to steer their team to victory. Among the rest, Rahul Tewatia scored 2, Arshad Khan 1, Kagiso Rabada 2, and Sai Kishore 1. Rashid Khan remained unbeaten on 4.


Lucknow's Innings:


Earlier, Lucknow started strong with a 91-run opening partnership between Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh. Sai Kishore broke the stand by getting Markram caught by Shahrukh Khan for 36. Marsh then partnered with Nicholas Pooran, and the pair added 121 runs off 52 balls. Marsh smashed his maiden IPL century, scoring 117 off 64 balls with 10 fours and 8 sixes.


Nicholas Pooran remained not out on 56, while Rishabh Pant remained unbeaten on 16. Arshad Khan and Sai Kishore took one wicket each for Gujarat.
