JANAKPURDHAM, Nov 25: The 29th International Maithili Conference kicked off in Janakpurdham from Saturday.
Maithili writers from Nepal and India are participating in the two-day event organized by the International Maithili Council.
Inaugurating the conference, former Chief Justice Ram Kumar Prasad said deficient of enthusiasm in the use of the Maithili language has obstructed the further development of the language and its protection.
Linguistic Dr Ram Awatar Yadav and Prof Dr Asha Sinha sought initiations from every quarter for the further promotion and protection of the Maithili language.
Litterateur Ram Bharos Kapadi Bhramar drew the attention of the government towards recognizing the Maithili language as the official language of the Province 2.
