Talking about the arrival of the new member secretary in the National Sports Council (NSC) he said, “Bishnu Prasad Lamsal will remain as the caretaker member secretary until another provision is made.” Lamsal was appointed as a caretaker member secretary of the NSC on Thursday. Speaking to journalists at an interaction program, Nepali said, “The caretaker member secretary will make preparations for the upcoming South Asian Games and for the smooth functioning of the NSC.”
Minister Nepali also hinted that he would take serious action if NSC board members do not resign from their posts. “The new NSC board will be inclusive with representatives from all sides. But it will incorporate more members from the Tarai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP),” added Minister Nepali who belongs to TMDP. “The proposal for the formation of the new NSC board will be submitted in the cabinet meeting shortly.”
The organizing committee of the previous National Games led by then member secretary Jeevan Ram Shrestha was accused of financial irregularities. A total of Rs 250 million was allocated to conduct the fifth edition of the National Games which resumed after 12 years. About Rs 165 million was spent in the national games.
Responding to the queries, secretary at the sports ministry Umesh Mainali said that member secretary Lamsal may remain in the NSC for a longer period. However, he would be replaced immediately if a qualified new person was appointed. “In the absence of a member secretary, many issues had been pending in the NSC. Hence, Lamsal was appointed for the post,” Mainali said.
The NSC has arranged an interaction program with its department on Monday and with all the sports association the following day. “We look forward to suggestions from all the stakeholders to improve the sports sector,” Mainali said.
Sitaram Maskey resigns
National Sports Council (NSC) vice president Sitaram Maskey resigned from the post on Sunday. Maskey handed his resignation letter to Minister for Youth and Sports Ganesh Tiwari Nepali at the ministry at Satdobato.
He also handed over the resignation letter of board member Purendra Bikram Lakhe to the Minister. Presently, Lakhe is in Bangkok, Thailand, as the Chef de Mission of the Nepali team in the ongoing First Asian Martial Arts Games.
Maskey urged minister Nepali to approve the resignation of Lakhe only after the completion of the Martial Arts Games being held in Thailand. Maskey and Lakhe along with the outgoing member secretary Jeevan Ram Shrestha were nominated under the CPN-UML quota some three years ago. Shrestha resigned from the post on July 23.
Sabina Maskey appointed as acting MD of Nepal Telecom
