Innovative pulled off a 40-29 victory over Ideal Model School in the boys´ final played at the National Sports Council covered hall on Wednesday. Ajay Kunwar scored 13 points for the winning side.[break]
Innovative could not open the scoring in the first quarter but bounced back to dominate the remaining three quarters. Ideal took a 4-0 lead in the first quarter but Innovative staged a comeback to take the second quarter 13-6. In the third quarter, Innovative scored 10 points against seven scored by Ideal. Innovative took the last quarter 17-12 to register a comfortable victory.
In the girls´ final, Valley Public thrashed Angels´ Heart 34-19 as Laxmi Chaudhary scored 10 points. Valley Public dominated the first three quarters with the scores of 13-3, 6-3 and 10-5 respectively. Angels´ Heart tried to bounce back in the last quarter scoring eight points against Valley Public´s five but it was not enough to avert the defeat.
Ashish Basnet of Innovative was adjudged the most valuable player in the boys´ section of the tournament, organized by Nepal Basketball Association in the memory of basketball lover Ram Kumar Basnet. Laxmi Chaudhari of Valley Public was declared the most valuable player in the girls´ section.
National Sports Council Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama gave away the prizes to the winners. Altogether 15 teams had qualified for the final round of the tournament in the boys´ section while 24 school teams had participated in the girls´ section.
