KHOTANG, July 9: An inmate was found hanging in the toilet of District Prison, Khotang on Sunday evening.
Sudip Rai, 31, of Kepilasgadhi Rural Municipality-1, who was serving a jail term for murdering his wife, reportedly committed suicide in the toilet of the prison. The toilet where he was found dead was not used by the inmates.

Rai, who used to work in foreign land, had returned home just two weeks before his wife's death. According to the neighbors, a dispute had ensued between the couple as Rai suspected that the child growing in his wife's womb was not his.
The officials and inmates started searching for him in the evening after he was not seen anywhere around, according to the prison chief Chitrakhar Acharya.
The Supreme Court had sentenced him to 20 years in prison for killing his wife Sushma and burning her dead body. Inspector Keshav Kumar Katwal of the District Police Office (DPO) informed Republica that preparations are underway to send the body for postmortem after informing the family members about the incident.
Rai was arrested by police on February 1, 2015 following the death of his wife on January 16. According to police, he murdered his wife and burnt his own house to make it look like she died in fire. Later, police managed to collect all the evidences against him and he was put behind the bars for his crime.

During the postmortem, it was found that the woman had a four months fetus in her womb. Police had also called a local youth for investigation after the villagers claimed that he had an alleged affair with Rai's wife.
