Mugu avalanche update: Rescue team fail to reach avalanche site
At least seven people—five foreign nationals and two Nepali climbers—were killed when an avalanche hit a team attempting to climb Dolma Khang Himal in Gaurishankar Rural Municipality-9 on Monday morning.
Authorities said that while the death toll has been confirmed, the bodies of the victims have not yet been recovered from the site due to difficult terrain and weather conditions.
A joint rescue team of around 50 personnel from the Nepal Army, Armed Police Force (APF) and Nepal Police, including members of the APF Border Out Post (BOP) Lamabagar, has been deployed for search and recovery operations.
The avalanche struck at around 10:30 AM on Monday as a team of Nepali and foreign climbers was heading toward Yalung Ri Go Mountain (5,630 meters) in the Rolwaling mountain range of Dolakha district.
Authorities are working to identify the deceased foreign nationals and retrieve the bodies from the avalanche-hit area.
