KATHMANDU, Oct 9: In response to the tragic incident involving Nepali citizens in Israel, the government has launched a comprehensive initiative to facilitate the repatriation of deceased Nepali nationals and the rescue of those in distress.

At present, operations at the Tel Aviv-based airport are proceeding without disruption, enabling the smooth transportation of Nepali bodies by air. Consequently, the process of repatriating the deceased and assisting those willing to return home has commenced.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement last night, outlining their efforts: "We have requested the Israeli government to promptly identify and arrange for the repatriation of the deceased Nepali nationals, as well as to ensure the rescue and appropriate medical treatment for the injured." To streamline this process, online registration is being prepared in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Nepali Embassy in Tel Aviv, and the Government of Israel. This registration will collect crucial details from Nepali citizens wishing to return to Nepal from Israel.

The unfortunate incident occurred last Saturday when 10 Nepali citizens, participants in the "Learn and Earn" program sponsored by the Israeli government and students of Sudur Paschim University, fell victim to an attack by the Palestinian militant group, Hamas. Many Nepalis are currently sheltering in bunkers, anxiously awaiting rescue.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal convened a meeting with ministers and secretaries, joined by Foreign Minister NP Saud, upon learning of the Nepali casualties in the Hamas attack. He issued directives to initiate the rescue process for affected Nepali citizens.

During the same meeting, a coordination mechanism was established under the supervision of Foreign Minister Saud. Minister Saud conveyed that the mechanism is taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety and rescue of Nepali citizens in Israel. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is issuing essential instructions to the Nepali Embassy in Tel Aviv while coordinating with relevant agencies. The government of Nepal is wholeheartedly committed to promptly rescuing Nepali citizens from conflict-affected areas.

The Ministry has also released contact details for officials from the Nepali Embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, urging affected individuals to remain in contact with them and maintain vigilance during this challenging period.
