Scenes of jubilation were certainly rare in a country with the lowest life satisfaction rating out of all OECD nations. Indeed, since 2007, life satisfaction in Greece has plunged 27.3 percentage points, according to the ONS. Other countries impacted by the financial crisis such as Ireland and Spain have also experienced a decline in life satisfaction, though nowhere near as severe as that experienced in Greece. Chile saw a huge improvement in life satisfaction between 2007 and 2014. This is primarily due to falling unemployment and increased public social expenditure.
