The British Bloodhound LSR supersonic car is to begin a series of high-speed test runs in South Africa in preparation for an attempt at breaking the world land speed record. The UK-led venture will use the Bloodhound SSC car rescued from administration by Yorkshire-based businessman Ian Warhurst in December 2018.

Bloodhound LSR will make its high-speed runs at Hakskeen Pan in South Africa in October 2019, aiming to achieve speeds of up to 500mph (800km/h). This will allow the team to test many aspects of the car and operational procedures in advance of a planned world land speed record attempt in late 2020. The tests will be done using the car’s Rolls-Royce EJ200 jet engine, which was successfully used in low speed trials at Newquay Airport in the UK in 2017.
