Addressing the function, Somit Joshi, the expedition team leader, said the team was climbing Mt Everest to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the SSB.

Under the campaign ´Everest Climb, Clean and Run (ECCR)´, the team is climbing Mt Everest with the plan of bringing down their own garbage while returning from the peak.

“We don´t want to pollute the mountain, so we will be bringing all the garbage back to Namche Bazaar for disposal. It is mountaineers´ social responsibility as global citizens,” he said.

The 10-member expedition team is receiving support from Himalaya Expeditions Company. The ECCR was launched last year.
