Indian envoy calls for facilitating Nepal-India trade

BIRJUNG, July 2: Indian ambassador to Nepal Jayant Prasad has said trade relationship between Nepal and India should be further facilitated as Nepal has more trade with India than with other countries.



Speaking at an interaction at the office of consulate general of India in Birgunj Tuesday, Prasad said, “Out of Nepal´s total trade turnover, 60% business is with India, 1.4% with China, and 28.6% with other countries via India.” He also said that trading relations between Nepal and India have remained special. “India is ready to provide transit point to Nepal via Bangladesh,” the envoy said, adding that Nepali side was not taking proactive initiative for the construction of transit point Nepal and Bangladesh via India.



He also said that Nepal by virtue of being neighbour of two fast growing economies -- India and China -- should benefit from its neighbours.



He also lauded the role of Nepal Police in curbing the flow of fake Indian currency. "Though Nepal Police doesn´t have mordern technologies, its role in curbing smuggling of fake Indian currency is exemplary."



He also informed that there is plan to construct Integrated Check Posts (ICP) at five places on Nepal India border and construction of an ICP at Birgunj in underway.
