KATHMANDU: The Embassy of India in Kathmandu organized a training course on screen acting to 20 prominent Nepali actors at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune from February 12 to March 3. The Indian Embassy organized a press meet on Monday to discuss about the participating actors’ experience during their 20-day visit to Pune.

Actors including Malina Joshi, Ashma Dahal, Samayam Puri, Jyotsna Yogi and Gopal Dhakal had participated in the training. Speaking at the press meet, Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) at Embassy of India in Kathmandu, Dr Ajay Kumar said, “As Nepal is connected to India from three sides on the border, we have a huge Nepali speaking population in India, especially in eastern states like Darjeeling and Sikkim. So, these kinds of collaborations between Nepali film industry and Bollywood will promote cross-border culture through drama, theater and television shows.”

The participants were trained by Rasa Theory on sense memory, improvisation, scene work and lip sync. Apart from acting, the participants also indulged in dance workshops, yoga classes and an exposure visit to an ongoing shooting location in Mumbai.

Speaking about the training, actor, singer and theater artist, Sharada Adhakari, who has performed in different Nepali movies like ‘Taandro’, ‘White Sun’ and ‘Sher Bahadur’ among others said, “I will implement my learnings from the training in my next film. I think time schedule of this training was too tight and the duration of the journey was too short as we got only one day off during our 20 days’ training.”

Jyotsana Yogi, another participant of the training said, “I’d never received any formal training before this, so this was a great opportunity for me.”
