KATHMANDU, July 14: In a press conference held at Reporters’ Club in Putalisadak, Vishal Kapoor, an Indian fashion designer, has accused Liza Chettri and Khem Shiwakoti of fraud. Kapoor stated that the duo approached him with the idea of launching a fashion magazine in Nepal. He also owns a fashion retail store under the brand name, Panache Runway, at Durbar Marg, Kathmandu and frequently travels to Nepal for his business. Kapoor was one of the judges and the designer at the Miss Nepal 2012 pageant.

According to Kapoor, he came to Kathmandu on May 7, and worked as the fashion director and fashion editor for the magazine they were supposed to launch, Panache Runway. To his requests to draw contract papers, he was asked to wait until the company was registered and the legal process was over.[break]

However, after two months, Chettri and Shiwakoti published a dummy of the magazine under the name of ‘NGLAM’ without prior notice to Kapoor. The designer also claims that he has not been paid for any of his services. He further says, “They used my personal brand name, personal photographs and came out with the exact copy of my magazine. The look book style and the sample of the magazine, NGLAM, are exactly copied from Panache Runway.”

On the other hand, Liza Chettri explains that she was introduced to Kapoor through her then partner, Sonaal Rokka. “Sonaal brought him to work as a stylist and I don’t know what agreement they had regarding the work and the payment,” she states. The partnership has since dissolved and Liza says, “I have no idea why Vishal has filed a case against me as I was not the one who asked him to work here and I had no commitment with him. The photos he is talking about were used just in the dummy that we made and I have no idea why he gave the photos then. If he has any legal contracts that state that I’m supposed to pay him, I have no objection in doing so.”

Kapoor has filed cases against the parties in the Central District Office and the Labor Court on June 21 and June 28 respectively. He states, “After I filed case at the Labor court, Sonaal has already paid me half the amount, but Liza still refuses to pay me.”
