It is said Raxaul has been the first choice of Nepali customers for shopping as the prices of daily essential goods and cloths is cheaper there than of markets in Birgunj, one of the major business areas in the country.[break]
However, general secretary of the Birgunj Chambers of Commerce and Industries, Gopal Kediya claimed that Nepali market also offers goods at reasonable price. According to Kediaya, traders in Raxual import goods from Nepal, too.
Nepali customers visit Raxaul especially for saree, kurtha salwar, shirting and suiting, cosmetic items, sugar, edible oil, daal, spices, pickle and snacks, electronic items and kitchen accessories.
“I decided to come here for Dashain shopping as the prices of daily commodities and cloths are cheaper here than in Nepali markets”, said Sunita Shah of Birgunj Municipality- 11 found in Raxaul.
People from Birgunj, Kalaiya, Bara and rural parts of Parsa, Makwanpur and Chitwan visit Raxual for shopping.
According to traders, business in Raxual during the festive seasons in Nepal normally goes up by two folds.
