KATHMANDU, Nov 1: Ambassador Naveen Srivastava, on behalf of the Government of India, handed 200 vehicles over to Janardan Sharma, finance minister of Nepal, as a gift from India for logistical support to various Nepali institutions for conducting the upcoming elections.
These vehicles are being handed over at the request of the Government of Nepal for utilization during elections, of which 120 vehicles are for the utilization by security forces and 80 vehicles are for the utilization by the Election Commission of Nepal. These vehicles will prove to be useful in further augmenting the logistical arrangements of various institutions of Nepal for conducting the polls, according to a press statement issued by the Indian embassy in Kathmandu.
Finance Minister Janardan Sharma thanked the Government and people of India for their continued support in the form of development partnership with Nepal, including the gifting of these vehicles.
Till date, India has gifted more than 2400 vehicles to various Nepali institutions for support during elections, including approximately 2,000 vehicles to Nepal Police and Armed Police Force and about 400 vehicles to the Nepali Army and the Election Commission.
