NUWAKOT, June 26: Nuwakot district woke up to a second day of general strike on Wednesday morning.

The people of Bidur Municipality Ward No. 6 have called a district-wide banda or general strike since Tuesday in protest against the government´s move to settle the landslide victims of local Kimtang to Khampa Camp in the municipality.[break]

A normal life in the district headquarters Bidur has been affected due to the banda since Tuesday. The general strike has hit life in the neighbouring district Rasuwa also.

Transport, schools, colleges and markets are closed due to the general strike called by the Bidur Municipality Save Khampa Camp Land Struggle Committee.

The locals´ protest comes after the District Natural Disaster Rescue and Relief Committee last Friday proposed the land at Khampa Camp at Chandipokhari as an alternative land for relocating the Kimtang landslide victims. It is said 408 families in Kimtang have been displaced due to a huge landslide.
