KATHMANDU, June 27: As many as 13 people lost their lives due to floods, landslides and lightning across the country in the aftermath of the recent incessant rainfall.
According to Nepal Police, nine people lost their lives due to landslides and three due to lightning in the past few days. Similarly, an individual was swept away by a flooded river in eastern Nepal.
On Tuesday night, a landslide that took place in Kwhlosothar Rural Municipality-1 of Lamjung district buried four members of a single family. The deceased have been identified as Rudra Man Gurung 67, Pancha Kumari Gurung 36 and her two daughters Ichha Gurung, 8, and Namrata Gurung, 4.
Likewise, Bikal Sunar 16 of Dordi Rural Municipality-9 of Lamjung district died while undergoing treatment at Lamjung Hospital. He was injured after a landslide buried his residence. Milan Sunar 18, a victim of the same incident is undergoing treatment in the same hospital.
Ayusma Ranabhat 13 from Chitepani Ghumti of Madi Rural Municipality-5 of Kaski district and Hari Sunar 31 from Aarupata of Pokhara Metropolitan City-27 also died in two different landslides in their respective locations.
Dev Kumari Khatri 35, a resident of Thumki of Chishankhu Gadhi Rural Municipality-5, Okhaldhunga also died after a landslide buried her residence and cowshed.
Similarly, a lightning strike in Kailali district claimed the lives of two people and left six others severely injured.

The deceased have been identified as Jayram Dagaura, 31, of Joshipur-3, and Shalim Chaudhary, 27, of Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City-18.
According to Kabindra Singh Bohora, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Kailali, the victims were working in a field when the lightning struck them on Wednesday morning.
A similar incident that took place in Kapilvastu district claimed the lives of two people. Mahesh Kalwar 22 from Bhaisahiya of Yasodhara Rural Municipality-6 and Raju Thakur 18 from Prem Nagar of Buddha Bhumi Municipality-10 died due to lightning.
Likewise, Premkala Chaudhary, 22, a resident of Sundar Haraicha Municipality-4, Morang was swept away by a flood in Budhi Khola situated at the border of Morang and Sunsari districts. Chaudhary was washed away as she was fishing in Budhi Khola Tuesday afternoon. Her family members Asara Devi Chaudhary, 60, and Phula Chaudhary, 25, have gone missing in the flood.
Flood in Khado River
Flood in Khado River at Rupani Rural Municipality of Saptari district inundated 30 houses in Rupani-1 of the district. According to Chief District Officer Mekh Bahadur Mangrati, the flood has also affected houses in ward numbers 3 and 11 of Kanchanrup Municipality and ward numbers 1 and 2 of Tiruhut Rural Municipality.
Biratnagar inundated
Biratnagar has been inundated due to the continuous rain since Tuesday morning. Rain water has overflowed from the road due to the blockage of drainage along the embankment of the Dharan-Biratnagar road section.
The Nepal Oil Corporation building is inundated. Similarly, over 600 houses are also inundated in the Rani area of Biratnagar.
According to the District Police Office, many places of Morang district have been inundated due to the incessant rain. Nabraj Karki, superintendent of police (SP) at the District Police Office, said that 10 families of Sardar Tole, Biratnagar Metropolitan City-19, have been displaced.
Similarly, the floodwater from the Kesalia River has entered the settlements in Biratnagar Municipality-12. According to Ward Chairperson Hira Lal Kamat, over 60 houses along the riverbanks have been inundated.
As a result of the incessant rain lack of an efficient drainage system, roads and houses are waterlogged. About 100 families have been displaced in wards 12 and 19. Arjun Thapaliya, coordinator of the quick response team of Biratnagar Metropolitan City, said that those displaced families have taken shelter at a local school.
As much as 361 mm of rainfall occurred in Biratnagar in the 24 hours from 8:45 AM on Tuesday to 8:45 AM on Wednesday.
Prithvi Highway damaged
A section of the Prithvi Highway in Chauthe, Pokhara Metropolitan City-14, has been washed away due to heavy rainfall.
The District Police Office, Kaski, reported that the incident occurred at around 6:30 am on Wednesday morning. The highway section was damaged after the water flow increased in Ghattekulo, located in Chauthe Anand Tole of Pokhara Metropolitan City-14.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Basanta Kumar Sharma, information officer at the District Police Office, Kaski, stated that a section of the highway measuring about 5 meters in length and 1.5 meters in width on the right side of the road was washed away. Additionally, another highway section, about seven meters long and one meter wide, approximately 10 meters away from the initial damage was also affected. According to DSP Sharma, the road is currently open for one-way traffic.
