In Pictures: Devotees pull Rato Machhindranath chariot in Patan

KATHMANDU, April 25: The chariot of the deity Rato Machindranath was pulled at Patan on Monday afternoon.

Rato Machhindranath or Karunamaya is the god of grain and rain, where Rato Machhindranath or Bungadya's Jatra is considered as a living culture, which is celebrated by Buddhists, Hindus, Vaishnavites and Shaivites (Nath sects) alike.

The annual chariot procession begins in the month of Baisakh on Shukla Pakshyapada till Asar Shukla Chauthi, for around two months. The length (height) of Machhindranath’s chariot is 48 feet, made of wood and cane. The chariots are constructed with wooden frames without using any nails at Pulchowk.
