The festival includes gods/goddess Brahmyani, Indreswor Shiva, Bhadrakali and Unmanta Bhairav and their idols are taken out from their respective temples for the celebration. The significance of this festival, however, lies in the fact that it is celebrated as a means to bring rainfall. Thus, it is considered a bad omen should rain not grace the festivities.

On the first day of the festival, the deity in Machindranath Bahal is taken in a khat (palanquin) by eight priests and the deity is placed in the decorated chariot. Then, the procession begins from Tindhara (Durbar Marg) and is pulled toward Asan. Priests do not eat anything on the first day until the chariot is brought up to Asan. Before that barber shaves their head around 9 am and they prepare Khat. After that they take bath and they get dressed in white.

The people present in the Pashupatinath temple premises seemed curious seeing a priest, donned in a red colored top, performing rituals to initiate the Trishul Jatra at Bastsaleswori. He was offering flowers, vermilion powder, fruits and incenses to the ‘khat’, a wooden palanquin, and in the meantime preparing for a sheep sacrifice. It was also evident that the onlookers were hyped for the upcoming events.
